For people fed by g-tube for medical reasons, blended meals are a nutritious option that can be used in place of canned formula. I have seen an improvement in my daughter’s (11 years old) health, energy, cognition, and mental clarity since switching her to blended meals 7 years ago.
Cook the meat of your choice. I use ground meats as they blend more easily. Cook thoroughly without crisping. I cook a 3 pound package and use half of that in this recipe.
First I blend together:
washed:
1 tomato, cut up into 4 pieces
1 zucchini, cut into 4 – 8 pieces
1/4 – 1/3 pound of spinach
10- 15 half walnuts
1 large handful parsley
3 – 4 cups water
When thoroughly blended, I add half of the 3 pounds of ground meat I cooked, and blend again.
Any number of vegetables can be substituted. If you are avoiding nuts, oils can be substituted to add calories.
“Little Miss” gets 3 meals of a protein/vegetable blend each day, and one meal of the fruit/grain blend.

I have read almost the entire site to help with my father’s PEG tube. Thank you! I wanted to know, however, do you cook the veggies first? I am assuming that you do.
Thank you.

Hi Michelle,
Actually I do NOT cook the vegetables unless I am using some of the more cruciferous vegetables that tend to be a bit gaseous like onions. Thanks for visiting. I hope it’s going well!!

Do you have a calorie count on the formulas? My son needs at least 1400 calories a day. Is this about 450 calories? Your site has been so helpful for our family. Thanks for all that you do.
